Southwick Country Club first opened for play in 1920.
The course sits on flat terrain. The greens are fast and undulating. The front nine is wide open, the back nine requires more precise play.
Blue tees: par-71, 6,100 yards, 68.1 / 114
Gold tees: par-71, 5,869 yards, 66.9 / 112
Red tees: par-71, 5,570 yards, 67.4 / 112
The course closed in late 2017.
Jason Fiore, of Fiore Realty Holdings purchased the course from Southwick Country Club owner William Najam. Najam, 74, a Westfield attorney. The golf course sold on February 22, 2018, to Fiore for a reported $1.9 million.
Fiore plans to develop housing on the 122 acres with 65 to 80 homes selling for $280,000 to $380,000. The Fiore purchase includes the building that once housed a clubhouse and the Candlewood Inn restaurant.
The city had the first right to match any purchase offer but turned down the opportunity. Najam had given the town that right decades ago in exchange for a property tax abatement under an open space preservation program.

I will miss playing this course, it looks like it will be turned to houses and such next year. For the beginner it’s great, wide open shorter than what it says 6100 more like 5600 5700, for the more advanced player it’s like a pitch and put. But for the price 10$ to walk after 4pm Friday to Sunday, it’s perfect. Great for practice, like hitting different shots and just to get out there and play golf. Wish the greens were much faster, but for a twilight round, very fair
